Discourse on the Kingdom
The subject the kingdom of God is among those that are relegated in the preaching and teaching curriculum of many present day pastors. Consequently, average members of many churches are ill-equipped with the knowledge and ethics of the kingdom. Venues of popular programmes are jammedbythose who are desperately searching for solution to what they have defined asafflictions and how they must confront wicked forces which they believe, or have been told, to be responsible for them. Because of the strong pressures that such problems exact on the people, churches and their programmes, have become arenas of fierce battle andenactment of miraclesalone nowseem to defineall that there may be to the mission orrelevanceof the Church.
But,the matter of the kingdom was dear enough to the heart of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself that He made it His theme of discussions, especially on the evesof His departure from the earth. That was a sure way to pin down the hope of the disciples on the day they will be evacuated from the rocking boat of this world which events in our generation have now confirmed to be wrecked beyond repairs, beyond redemption. Part of the responsibilities of the Church is to teach her members who may be engaged in any area of secular calling and religious endeavours and prepare them for such days that will soon bust upon our world, perhaps before it is too long from now.
Also, it is our duty as Christians to raise the awareness of the world to the imminence of the end as we refocus on the subject matter of the kingdom, as we seek its expansion and its prosperity. This will normally be through aggressive evangelism and soul-nourishing curriculums of Church in partnership with the Holy Spirit. Would to God that the Church will cast another look at thevolleys of her activities and pursuits, rearrange her priorities and begin to align them with the pattern of the discourse that engaged the attention of Jesus Christ, especially in this twilight era!
